WALKING AROUND

Marmitte dei Giganti Torbole sul Garda Nago

MARMITTE DEI GIGANTI

Could it be that these are huge potholes delved into the rock by powerful giants? Or were they created by some weird magic? Or are they a very particular natural phenomenon? To discover the secret of the Giants’ Potholes all you need to do is go there. From the car park along the main road Ss240, continue a short way in the direction of Torbole, take the trail on your right for Marmitte dei Giganti. These well-shaped depressions were created by glacial meltwater. Continue along the trail (not suitable for baby buggies) until you come to Torbole where you can relax by the lake. You can get back from Torbole to Nago by bus. This route takes about 30 minutes and is about 2 km long with some fairly steep stretches.

VARONE WATERFALL CAVE PARK

The charm of a deep ravine which feels like a gateway to a mysterious world. A magical place where the tireless work of water has created one of the loveliest waterfalls in Trentino. Come to Parco Grotta Cascata Varone between Riva and Tenno for a unique experience in a natural environment which can rarely be seen up close in such complete safety. This is a trail for true explorers to the centre of the Earth. The explorers’trail takes about 20 minutes but there is no time limit and you can stay inside the park as long as you like. The park has car parking and picnic areas.

ARCO CASTLE

From the historic centre of Arco there are many little roads to the Rocca which take you to the fortified dwelling. The main ones are from Palazzo Panni at Arco bridge and the junction of via Segantini and piazza 3 Novembre, as well as crossing through the historic quarter of Stranforio. The track up to the Castle will take you through olive grove to the Belvedere, a glass structure from which you can enjoy panoramic views over the entire Alto Garda area. At the castle there is free access to the Jousting lawn while there is an entrance fee to see what remains of the rooms and
owers, including the keep. On the way back down head for Stranforio and the picturesque streets of the old town. You will find yourself in Piazza 3 Novembre, near the public playground.

It takes 15/20 minutes to get up to the Castle. You can take as long as you like with your visit to the fortified house and gardens.

LAKE TENNO,
CANALE AND SAN PIETRO

These little gems are absolutely stunning, the medieval village of Canale, one of the loveliest in all Italy, and Lake Tenno with its emerald green waters, and an easy walk connecting the two. Leaving the car park take the steps down to the lake and turn left to follow the entire perimeter of the lake, or else go to the right and follow the shore for a shorter distance. In either case you will come to the refreshments kiosk and continue along the dirt road behind it. Keep to the left at the fork until Canale. On the way back, follow the same road you took on the way out as far as the fork but this time keep to the right: this brings you back to the car park. The entire trip takes about an hour and a half and is about five kilometres long. From Canale you can also get to the San Pietro mountain hut (and panoramic views over Garda Trentino) by car as far as the car park and about 10 minutes on foot from there.
