CULTURE
Get close and personal with the ancient peoples who inhabited this area, discover the origins of those who founded and built up the towns of Garda Trentino over the centuries. The local museum MAG - Museo Alto Garda, located inside the imposing Rocca fortress in Riva del Garda, offers a rich selection of major archaeological finds as well as temporary and permanent exhibitions. You can also get a guided tour at the hydroelectric power plants of Riva del Garda and Santa Massenza which take you in under the mountains to see the massive turbines and learn about the history of clean energy production. The bravest can take a close up look at the incredible reptiles and amphibians in the reptile house in Riva del Garda and young art lovers can find out about the paintings of one of the major exponents of Divisionism Giovanni Segantini situated in Palazzo Panni in Arco. In the surrounding area: Among the cultural activities designed for kids, Trentino offers immersive experiences in the Musei della Palafitte (stilt houses museums) in Molina di Ledro and in Fiavé or the famous Muse (Science Museum) in Trento or Museums of Science Archaeology and War in Rovereto.
There are also countless museums small and large which offer activities for kids such as the folk museum in San Michele all’Adige, the aviation museum G. Caproni in Trento, the museum of Futurism Depero in Rovereto and practically all
the castles in the area.
SPORT
There are countless schools and sports clubs which are operative in the area all year round and in summer organise courses and camps for every age group in a wide range of disciplines. Soccer, tennis, archery, cycling, windsurfing, sailing, climbing, swimming and much more besides: whatever it is your kids are into Garda Trentino has a lot to offer. And there are many activities children can do together with local mountain guides: take your first steps on the family climbing crags Doss Pelà between Dro and Drena, San Martino near Arco or Massi delle Traole in Nago-Torbole. You can ascend the via ferrata Colodri in Arco or Rio Sallagoni in Drena. Plus there are thrilling adventure parks between Dro and Pietramurata or in the Busatte park in Nago-Torbole. And if it is bikes that you are into, there is plenty for kids and adults too at the Bike Trail Center in Pietramurata (Dro) along the Riva-Sarche cycle path, with its four routes with 12 variants at different levels of difficulty, two of which are for kids only. In the Nelson Mandela park in Arco there is a pump track designed specially for kids. The wide open green area leaves plenty of space to play all year round and there is a kiosk with toilet facilities. And bike lovers will find in Garda Trentino many bike hire shop to enjoy long rides on cycle paths which are also suited to strolling with a baby buggy.
NATURE
Every trail is a discovery to be made and every day offers something new. With its mountain slopes and high peaks Garda Trentino offers countless nature attractions. There are the mountain pastures where you can enjoy contact with the animals and sample the produce of the farm. There are also some educational farms in the area where you get up close
and personal with farm animals as well as alpacas, lamas and donkeys. Let yourself get carried away by the thrill of discovery: along the cycle paths, in the clearings on the trails, in the meadows and little inlets and bends on the rivers, streams and lakes there are countless refreshment areas with tables, benches and little barbecue grills where you can rest and organise picnics. In Dro, at the Oasi Lago Bagatol you can also
go fishing.
FUN
All over Garda Trentino you will find playgrounds with plenty of amenities, some of which have inclusive games (in Arco and Riva del Garda), others with scientific games (Arco and Tenno). Guaranteed fun on the lake shore with trampolines on Sabbioni beach and beach volley ball courts in both Riva del Garda and Torbole and floating platforms for swimmers. For parents on holiday with small children, the baby little homes offer a space with facilities for changing nappies and heating bottles (Spiaggia Sabbioni and the public gardens Giardini di Porta Orientale). All the beaches in Garda Trentino have toilet facilities and refreshment areas. Fun on the lake also means boat trips, motorboats and pedalo hire. There is a magical atmosphere all year round, in summer with the Fairytale Night and in winter amid the Christmas lights, Santa’s House and the Christmas markets in Arco, Canale and Riva del Garda. Down the lake towards Verona there are some of the most famous amusement parks in Italy or Europe, all of which can be reached by car and some by public transport: Gardaland, Movieland, Caneva Aquapark, Sea Life Aquarium, Medieval Times, Parco Natura Viva, Parco Giardino Sigurtà and Parco Cavour.
